My schedule the past few days caught up with me this monring and made it SO hard to get out of bed.    Last night I got suckered into watching olympic skaters and went to bed nearly 2 hours later than I have been.

Had my first hypnobirthing class last night - seems good, but it was just the overview.  Definatly wearing yoga pants and a sports bra next time!!!  We watched a couple of  videos, but no big gory ones (or maybe my reading of Ina May's Natural Childbirth prepared me!!)  We started w/ a Dateline NBC segment about hypno from 1991, which was v. interesting.   Did a 'small' hypno session of simple visualization, and as predicted, I think all of the guys fell asleep!

Leaving work a bit early tonight to stop by the American Craft Coucil show at the convention center.  I love the glass and decorative fiber people.  Not looking for anything particular, but always find a little bauble or two to pick up.  Look how nummy these scarves are!  I'm intrigued by these felt neckaces -- they remind me of some of the home-creations that [livejournal.com profile] banshee posts!    OOohho to have a crafting space again....and the time to play around!!

Otherwise, the co-ed "baby bash" is tomorrow, and all I'm expecting is some good neopolitian pizza with friends, so if there's anything more, I'll be pleasantly surprised.

I forsee both a salvation army trip and a dump run in my future to move the large pile that's growing on the back porch, but other than that, should be a quiet ekend!

yada yada

Weekend was pretty non-eventful....a few naps, some errands run, nice dinner with friends, yoga...

long version )

Big furniture deliverys today -- our dining room table is FINALLY here, and the crib, which I ordered last week, will be here today, too. Being as next week my parents visit and take the guest room bed w/ them, this marks the Offical Beginning of Nursery Prep time. EEEKKKK!!!!

weekend

Jan. 9th, 2006 02:32 pm
Weekend was pretty uneventful - ate well (Such yummy green curry chicken), enjoyed a good Redskins win, watched Willy Wonka w/ Mr Depp (highly amused!) went to a friends baby shower (nice, understated, friendly).  I don't even remember Friday night.  And I'm not even drinking!!

FINALLY decided on baby furniture -- will get the chest o' drawers, desk and night stand in my originally prefered style.  I'll keep the hutch off of the desk until its needed.  I'm sick of worrying how long it will last...heck, my luck, the kid will be a terror and destroy it in 5 years anyway, and its better to destroy something cheap than solid maple, right???  I'll probably order everything in late Jan, because my luck, the order will come in when we're in Mexico and it will sit outside for a week in the rain.

Now, on to better things, like vacation planning.......primarily, what's the best way to get from Cancun airport to my hotel?  [livejournal.com profile] ami_tutti, any suggestions?  I got a quote for a private van round trip transfer for $85 -- is it worth it to avoid the bus/van that stops everywhere for $40?
Weekend was happily low-key for us, and can pretty much be summarized by the following:

-raking leaves
-catching up on Arrested Development Season 2, via Netflix
-watching Kinsey (much better than I expected)
-finishing The Kite Runner (again, much better than expected)
-looong bath on Sat night when Judd was watching a PPV Ultimate Fighter Championship (2 dorks!)
-attacking the behemoth that is the baby registry (primarily for Christmas stuff)
-2 hour naps
-nice long prenatal yoga session with real teacher, finally after 2 weeks (focus of the week: massage!!)
-yummy homemade white chili

All of this will hopefully properly prepare me for flying to FL on Tuesday. Urgh. HATE holiday flying.

We're catching Potter tonight, and Judd is calling the adjacent Circuit City to see if they're opening at midnight to buy the new X-Box. I told him that its way out of our christmas budget this year (we're 'giving' each other Mexico in lieu of big gifts), but he got a nearly 2-year-late final check from State Farm after the totaling of his car that will cover it plus a couple of games. Since he paid off his car before we joined finances, I'm all in favor of it!
finally had a nice relaxing selfish weekend, deviod of visiting with friends or family....and look how much my lj friends helped make it so!

-Staying in pajamas until 2 on Saturday watching Downfall about Hitler's last days.  (v. good, but long)

-Finally finding and ordering a large sage-green rug to finally replace the one in the living room (v. old pic)  that came with the house, but is SO not our style (and is quite threadbare on the 'main paths).  Even better, got a hefty discount (thanks, [livejournal.com profile] guavalicious!!)

-Scoring a new-in-box Diaper Genie w/ 3 packs of refils at the neighborhood yard sale for $7.  I was kind of indiffernt about them, but hey, for $7, who can argue?!

-very very good prenatal yoga class on Sunday

-First apple cider of the season!  YUM!  New favorite beverage!

-Super yummy sunday dinner of Chicken & Dumplings, based on  [livejournal.com profile] eleanor_ramilly's recipe that I've had for years but never made.  Really like how the meat is removed from the bones, then simmered, then dumplings added.  Makes the eating so much more enjoyable.....extreme comfort food!

-Watched Pieces of April last night - a longtime recommendation by [livejournal.com profile] cesariohaines.  Very cute/sweet movie that was unexpectedly, well, nice.  Not overly sappy or melodramatic, just a great indie film with an interesting, non-stereotypical cast.

Now, lets see if this week will continue the upward trend!

it FINALLY feels like fall here!  had a productive weekend -- got a bunch of banking/billings done, organize the closets, hemmed 3 pairs of preggers pants (because NONE come in short length!), etc.

Highlight include:

-Decemberists show -- sound was good, venue was horrible.  I will NEVER go to Sonar again.  Its a converted warehouse with a low stage, a floor that slopes UP to the stage, low ceilings and columns/pillars throughout.  I could not find a decent line of sight and just gave up.  I have been to hundreds of club shows and this was one of my worst experiences by far.

-1st prenatal yoga class -- nice!  there were 5 others in the class, and I was the 'least' along.  Class was about 1'15 minutes, and not too 'earthy' which was my preference.  Signed up for classes until the end of Dec.

weekendy

Should be a pretty quiet weekend, me hopes.

Plans include shopping for next weekend's Tiki Party, v. 2.0, a little yardwork, a nice long yoga session, and refreshing ourselves on the 1st season of Lost.

party menu, revisited from last year )

Judd's parents drove up here for the long weekend from Tampa........the weather was beautiful (the first time they've visited with nice weather), so we did a bunch of sightseeing.

Saturday:  Baltimore day.  Ft Mchenry, the Inner Harbor, Federal Hill, lunch at the Baltimore Museum of Art, walked through Fells Point, rested at home, visit at Steve & Dixie's house, then dinner at Nick's Fish house.   Memorable because I think I finally found a china cabinet/hutch that I like, for not a horrible price.  Now to find a table to match, and we're in business!!   The big MD/Navy football game was going

Sunday:  Judd + Dad played golf until 3-ish, MIL and I did some shopping (Sam's club, then outlet mall).  I bought shoes that must be returned.  I napped for about 2 hours.  Ate dinner at home (FAB steaks marinated in 1/3 fig preserves, 2/3 balsamic vinegar overnight, grilled and served with melted Aldouse (sp) garlic spread cheese)

Monday:  DC day.....2 hours at Arlington National Cemetery, hotdog lunch, visit to the National Archives to see the Big 3 documents (and yes, they did sell National Treasure in the gift shop), looooong walk up the mall to Vietnam Memorial, walk back to WWII memorial, cooled feet in fountain; dinner at the fabulouso Guapos (yum)

clicky on photo title for a closeup....

1. Judd + parents at Ft McHenry, 2. Kite Surfing on land, 3. Crabby Katherine, 4. sculpture garden at the Baltimore Museum of Art,
5. Changing of the Guard, 6. WWII detail, 7. World War II, 8. Looking for George
nothing big to report from this weekend except that we did an excessive amount of yard/pond work and my hamstrings are KILLING me from bending over to weed/plant all weekend.

too bad that my usual 600mg of Advil's are now verboten.

more stuff later (i'm in the field today), but first, an odd/funny dream:

oddly it featured tinksdust + family! )

Whew! I've barely had time to catch my breath since Friday, but here's a quick wrapup

Friday - porterhouses, priests and penises )

Saturday - gypsy punk, celtic punk, and sweaty punk )
Sunday - breakfast with the arts, jumping with dogs, chasing spiders )
Monday - burgers, shakes, and wedding cakes )

This week will be the mad dash of wrapping work stuff up and preparing for vacation in Nags Head next week.  I've got a ton of stuff to pull together (mainly food!) for the condo - I HATE grocery shopping down there...
We're going solo this year (well, except for Sammy) - no friends coming with us.  It should be a nice long week of relaxation, fresh seafood, playing in the waves, and catching up on some reading.

For alll of you Star Wars Fans (and even not-so-fans), this is hilarious. Screen caps of ROTS, but with subtitles that were transulated from english to chinese to english.  With a LOT of interpretation.

+++++

This weekend should be fun and busy!

Fri:  Dinner with friend/coworker & his wife the priest.  She's got a friend from Seminary in town who's supposedly a gorgeous flirty Yalie who's knows for keg handstands and leaving a 'wake' of guys looking at her.  It may be an interesting evening.

SatGogol Bordello / Flogging Molly show in Baltimore

Sun:  thanks to [livejournal.com profile] kazoogrrl's post, I'll be going to see Fluid Movement's water ballet interpretaion of a family vacation gone wrong.  It sounds SO wacky that I can't not go!

in between, will try to pick away at my long list of stuff to do

finally got a few pics from the past weekend up. I had fun playing with depth-of-field with the sculptures.....
rest of Artscape photos are here
had a loverly weekend - Saturday was our day at Artscape and ended at friend's party.  I always expect the worst from artscape, so when it wasn't horrible, it was good. (make sense??)  Probably having a friend working at the beer sales area helped, especially since they count cups, not quantity left in the truck.  A few Blue Moons later, we didn't mind the crowds at all.  Saw about 45 minutes of the Drive By Truckers, munched on a funnel cake, bought a very cool photo from an Atlanta artist (I'll get his name tonight & post the print)...all-in-all, a good summer art fair experience.

Sunday, we did some Dining Room shopping, ending up empty handed.  We're searching for that balance of timeless-yet-not-stuffy, modern-yet-not-glass and chrome, reasonably priced-yet-not cheap veneer.  Rooms like this look nice, but not us.   I'm so picky as to what we get that it may be a few years until we get a table, chairs & buffet/hutch to replace what we have existing.  (gah.  HATE the way that that paint shows up.  Must look into doing a paint effect over it - maybe ragging a burgandy over it?)

I like this  round table from Pottery Barn, but dunno about it in our space.  Square tables and tall 'gathering tables' are definately out.   I'm bouncing between a rectangular table and an oval (LUSTING over this one in Java).  I'm still in love with the idea of a parsons table from Room and Board with a copper top,  but Judd wasn't too keen on it.  (Even I would want to see it in person before we bought it.)    Maybe I should just find a hutch/buffet I like and work backwards...*sigh*  Regardless, we both fell in love with Leather Parsons chairs, so at least that decision is done....

photos from this weekend to follow tonight!
