watched Idol for the first time in its entirety last night (usually DVR it and zoom through) and OMG....Michael Johns.  Hottie McHotterson....

I knew he was the 'cool aussie' but MAN. Maybe I'm all hormonal right now, but DAMN. Far cry from the over stylized losers of previous years...

A few other notes:

-the other Rock guy, David Cook? Nice stealing from Chris Cornell on that one.....hope that Simon or someone mention that tonight.

-I retched when I heard the girl sing the "Proud to be an AMERICAN!". I laughed at Simon's statement about it being a brilliant song choice, 'cause who's gonna vote her out? He's looking at it from a "can this sell records" not from "wow, that was beautiful" He sees the WalMart crowd lining up to vote for her. I bet her version was all over the Adult Contemporary stations this morning.....

Based on the performances last night, theres at least 3 contestants that I think should be more in a "RockStar: [insert band name]" type show rather than be forced to sing the crap that Clive Davis will force them to sing.
1) I can't believe that Rome was shut out from the Emmys yet again. At least Entourage and Lost got some nods, as did Ugly Betty, which is my current tv love.

2) Why are critics reviewing the Harry Potter Book? Like if there's a so-so review, people won't read it? I'm terrified of seeing anything about the plot, even things like number of people who could die, if there's quittich, if there's deatheaters, if there's a big kiss, etc. My enjoyment of reading Order of the Phoenix was ruined when tv reported "Someone Harry loves dies!!!"

3) I'm catching up on this year's Big Brother (annoying Jen just got HoH). Unless we get her and the super irritating Jessica out now, I'm going to stop watching. If Dick leaves, I'm stopping watching.
Stereogum is one of my favorite music blogs.....I've been a fan since before I knew what a Blog was.

Today's post is a super cool little tool to set the final scene of the Sopranos to any mp3 that's online.

Because I'm obsessed with the new Spoon album now (produced by Jon Brion, no less!!), the choice of Underdog is too perfect.

Scoring movies and tv shows has always been one of my dream professions. I love when music is such a prominent part of films (thanks Mr Tarintino!). One of my favorite films ever, Wim Winders' Until the End of the World stands out because Wenders gave the screenplay to his favorite musicians (REM, Lou Reed, Nick Cave, Elvis Costello, Daniel Lanois) and had them write songs inspired by it.

*whew* that's enough cross-linking for now.....
CW cancels Mars

really not that big of a surprise, esp considering its PussyCatDolls hiatus and the wandering plotline that they're currently on, but sad to see it go regardless.......  Sad, because it was smart, funny writing, with a great protagonist who's smart, but not nerdy, and girly but not ditsy bimbo-y

haven't been in a writing mood lately - spent the weekend cleaning our filthy house (and I mean that obsessive dust-the-top-of-picture-frames kind of cleaning) and enjoying just staying home.  Got onboard the Battlestar Galactia train and we're both big fans after watching the 3 hr 'miniseries' on DVD.  We'll be catching up in the next few weeks/months w/ the other seasons.   Lost is gettng so sucky that I'm ready to quit it and shift allegiances, and who knows what's going on w/ Veronica Mars' absence...

Played with Ben a ton - he's standing like a champ, but not crawling or shuffling his legs.  He's doing the Dad Dance (you know it...the bent knee head nod) and has learned to gracefully plop down from standing.  Put him on his stomach and he'll lift his butt and scoot backwards a bit, but then stretch and roll over to get what he wants.  Guess he'll be one of those straight-to-walking kids.   (and 10 1/2 months, for those of you counting)

While thumbing through the mail last night, saw this room (page 17 of the PDF, called 'Soothing Space) in the Lowe's monthly project 'magazine'.  me want!  (although I'd add a daybed from West Elm and a drafting table for crafty things/laptop table, but then I'd have to keep the crafty stuff cleaned up so that it would remain a Soothing Space).  So, the Next House List of Wants now includes:  space for Katherine's Chill Room.    The windows in the pic MAKE the room.

Otherwise, just plowing through the assembly of my 2006 year in review Blurb book, which I was suppose to have done in Feb.  Oops.

We're in the midst of a massive TV service provider overhaul in our house.

Currently, we have Millennium Cable as our Cable and internet provider.
Who's Millennium? EXACTLY.

Our neighborhood is a small bubble* that isn't part of the Comcast Monopoly, and that IS a bad thing. We're paying $160 (should be $120, but the promotion that we're on expired) for internet, 1 HD DVR, one cable box (free), and nearly all of the channels. Our bill actually goes up if we drop all movie channels except for HBO. AND we have no on-demand. And only HD networks and movie channels (no Discovery, Food, TNT, etc)

Plus their service sucks the big one, BUT we can't just drop Millennium as a whole....we can't get DSL or any other internet in our 'hood. SO, dialup?

We ordered Directv (install is in 2 weeks), but have second thoughts about it (the ol' $$$ issue). And again,we're still beholden to the crappy cable company for internet, which will probably jump to $100/month because we won't have any other services with them.

To be honest, we only watch about 3 cable channels: CNN, the weather channel, HBO. I'll watch food, bravo, discovery, A&E, TLC and Judd watches Spike for the Ultimate Fighter stuff. We can get nearly all shows that we like from Xbox marketplace or itunes or other websites if we had to/wanted to. BUT just getting 3 channels isn't an option, thus we have 80 channels of crap. At least with Directv, you can program the remote and menu guide to not show the channels that you never watch (I'm thinking of you, QVC!)

ooooho Fios, please come my way**

*If/when we move, having a 'hood that has cable competition is a serious item of consideration

**our county has approved FIOS, but Verizon has no plans to install fiber in our area any time soon. I call monthly, and they say "not this month!"

I've been slow catching up with TV off of the DVR (and we're about to cancel our Cable in exchange for Directv again...anyone out there have one of the HD DVRs from them? Does it work okay?

A few couch potatoey notes....

Project Runway, Lost, Dexter, 30 Rock, Veronica Mars, The Nine )
my day was crap
work was hell
ben spent way too long in daycare, and I ran too many errands on the way home
(he was a dream, though, snuggled in his Ergo carrier)

Judd's still out of town
I have a billion things to do before Friday
my 'rents come on Friday, house is a mess

however......

I am giddily watching the Project Runway season finale (usually I just DVR it, but not tonight)

tonight I'm watching live, and and sipping on a glass of Amaretto.

yum

and
GO JEFFERY!
(oho, how I want the green striped dress w/ the zipper piping. yum)
So Judd and I finished watching the first season of Veronica Mars last night. I'd have died if I was watching it live w/ commercials with all of the cliffhangers in the last 2 episodes (Duncan runs away! Lilly's killer revealed! Is Logan good or bad?! Keith Mars' love life!)

How fricking AWESOME is that show?!

So is it REALLY on at 9pm on Wednesdays? Opposite Lost?!
If so, I'll have to get that dual tuner DVR...

</ fangirl blathering >
Having a DVR/Tivo has kept me sane the past few weeks. Baby crying? Hit pause! Awake at 3am? Watch last night's American Idol!

+ Am I the only one who is starting to think that Lost is getting a bit to "find the clues?" I love the show, I love the little interactions that characters had pre-island, but all of the wacky commercials and researching what names mean? I just hope that the non-researcher viewers don't get, um, Lost...

+HOORAY for Chris getting kicked off on AI. I never understood the hype about him. He always sung out of the middle of his mouth and not out of his throat/chest. And I won't comment on the stupidity of Teh Sideburns. I agree with [livejournal.com profile] effy that Taylor is the kind of guy who you want to see get a few beers in him and sing at a party, but don't think he's the next AI.

+Its chilly and rainy here today......and something has me craving oatmeal cookies! Since my 45 minute walk is out of the question today, I think I'll be baking.
So I'm loading up my netflix list for the next couple of months -- not so much movies, but nice easy to digest 25-45 minute shows that I've never seen

Thus far, the only thing I have on there is Gilmore Girls -- there's like 6 seasons - I should just start w/ season one, right? Or is it like Buffy, where the first year was a little lame, but then really picked up speed in year 2. Also going to add the 1st 2 years of Scrubs, as I usually missed them.

Anything else? I see that Project Runway is on DVD - I never caught that when it was on.....worth it?

I've seen most, if not all of
Buffy
Angel
Sopranos
Sex in the City
Curb your enthuasiam
Entorague
Six Feet Under
Arrested Development

I'm not a huge fan of 24, Alias, or the the CSI/law and order type shows

I am admitting my ubergeekness and patheticness at the fact that I'm really really excited that The Amazing Race is back on tonight, but pooh on it overlapping with American Idol.

DEFINATELY need to get that dual tuner DVR this weekend.

Last night I dreamt about baby slings and high school classmates who I never interacted with even while in school....seriously, the most random people imaginable.
I should NOT go online before bed.   Stoopid classmates.com  Stoopid babywearer.com

I wonder if 2:30 is going to be my new 'wall' to hit every afternoon.  I am struggling to keep awake again today.

Highlight of yesterday was receiving my new phone.  Verizon must hate me, because I ended up paying $2.50 for the phone, won't download more than 1-2 ringtones at the MOST, won't sign up for unlimited text/pix/flix, won't get the 'v-cast' streaming video clips.  I use my phone for , um, PHONE CALLS.  how odd.  I like the speakerphone and bluetooth, though.......

1)  Martha's apprentice makes me realize how much I dislike The Donald.

2)  Lost:  OMG!  OMG!!!

----------------

In related TV news, our frusturation with the crapola Millennium Cable is hitting an alltime high.  Problem is that on nearly every HD broadcast, the sound drops out occasionally.  Its REALLY bad on live sports (football).  A tech came out yesterday and readjusted our splitter and basically told me that either our internet or our HD will suck, as we have internet, HD, and one non-hd box that is pulling off of the same line..not THAT unusual.  Methinks that the cable company is undersized and not able to upgrade to keep up with techonology.

We are one of the very few neighborhoods that doesn't have Comcast, which is odd because the new development RIGHT BEHIND US has Comcast.  I have and am continuing to beg them to consider expanding into our neighborhood. Literally BEGGING the planning dept., but they keep saying "we don't have plans to expand into your neighborhood"  WTF??  We don't have on-demand, just recently got a dvr (and only with one tuner) and the HD channel selection sucks - networks, ESPN, HBO and SHO. No Discovery, no PBS.   I'm willing to be coughing up $150 a month (as will several other neighbors who I've griped to recently) - an increase of $35-40 a month!!

[livejournal.com profile] sumama, got any pull in Maryland for us? :P

eta:  our local Comcast carries Fox Soccer Channel - shit yeah!  I've been without footy (except for MLS) since I moved to Baltimore....
Dunno how many of you are watching Big Brother 6, but gathering from the posts on [livejournal.com profile] big_brother_6 and other bb's I find it funny (not to mention awesome) that the viewers love the Muslim/Iraqi Kayser much much more than the Las Vegas Firefighter Eric.

Part of it is that Kayser pulled of the most strategic power play I've ever seen on reality tv, also Eric's followers who are left in the house have dubbed him "Cappy" and are annoying as hell.

The public gets to vote one back in. Go Kayser!
