so this is about a month late...

how she got here! )
I'm cheating by adding in a weekend event, but hey, I feel like it.

CoffeePants!  today is turning into one craptastic event, capped by the fact that I sat in coffee on the train this morning.  no, it wasn't my coffee (and I'm glad it was coffee as opposed to some other mystery liquid), but I didn't know I sat in something until I got up and noticed that my pants were wet.  Yeah, the Baltimore Light rail has upholstered seats, so liquids are hidden unless you touch them.

Just talked to my mom. Her coworker who's due date was next week and has been having quite a few problems of problems (high blood pressure, estimated 10 lb baby, leaking fluids, etc) was scheduled for induction tomorrow.

Coworker went in for her appt yesterday, and the OB on call said "There's going to be no way that you can deliver this child. I' m scheduling a C/S" Another OB disagreed and said that the mother had the right to try. OBs get into a pissing match in front of patient. Conclusion was that she could 'try' for 6 hours, then C/S. Coworker goes home VERY upset.

Coworker started having contractions last night. Went to hospital early this AM, delivered baby within 5 hours of getting to hospital. A-hole OB was on call and actually delivered the baby. He didn't say a word about his previous statement.

Also, baby was 8 pounds, NOT the doom-and-gloom warning of a 10 pounder. I'm glad there's no weight estimate for Baby W - they're so rarely correct.

As my mom's relaying this to me, I think I interrupted her about 10x to say "And you wondered why I wanted midwives and a doula?!?"
Arrogant fucktard doctors.

I hereby apologize to every pregant woman I may have unwittingly annoyed as she neared her due date. I will say that I NEVER touched any of them, though.

I actually yelled and slapped at someone who tried to rub my stomach this morning.

Annoying Sorta-coworker, aka "N", who's a year or two older than me but not yet had a child stops by my desk. Here's the exchange.

N: OOho! You're still here?! How are you feeeeeling?!
K: (not turning around in chair, praying she'll leave) Yup, feel great
N: Wowwww..........
K: (silence)
N: Well, turn around and let me see you!!! (starts to turn my chair around with me in it. I'm gripping the desk preventing this from happening)
K: PLEASE DON'T TOUCH ME. I'm sick of people thinking my stomach is public property.
N: Hee hee! (Proceeds to rub/pat my head)
K: (swats hand away) um, I SAID NO TOUCHING ME. Why does everyone feel the need to either touch me or state the obvious. YES, I'm still here. YES, I'm still pregnant NO, I haven't had the baby.
N: Heehee! Well, I just want to wish you good luck!
k: (silence)
N: Okay, well just let me know what happens!!
K: will do!

Do you see her say "Oho, I'm sorry" in that exchange? Didn't think so.

With the exception of her and the other woman on my floor who I hide in a bathroom stall to avoid, most of my coworkers are cool. I don't mind if some of my close friends stop by in the AM to stick their head in my office with the "okay, just checking to see if you're here today!" kind of comments.

I am having fun at the expense of others when they say "Oho, you haven't had the baby yet??" and I respond, with either "What baby?" or "Um, I'm not pregant. I'm just fat, and that's pretty rude for you to assume"

I have realized that my entire office thinks of me as a time bomb waiting to go off.
My (child free) boss is terrified that I'm going to have the kid at my desk.

'cause ya know, kids just SHOOT out of women unexpectedly, with no warning.

Because of this coworker angst, I'm sure that I'm going to be a week overdue.

I'm really miserable at work today.  My 3rd tri. clothes are at their breaking point and every minute I can feel my feet puffing up even bigger.  Its also frickin' boiling in the office today, which makes my brought-from-home lunch of Beef Barley soup oho so practical and appealing.

-changing my work clothes in favor of yoga pants
- watching last night's Big Love episode
- watching Junebug, which came on DVD Saturday
- enjoying a strawberry Edy's whole fruit bar    (ooho! they make Peach now!)
- cleaning the bathrooms
- making food for the freezer
- making up a batch of chocolate chip cookies to freeze
- doing monthly Quicken/bill payer
- pulling weeds
- organizing my sock drawer

Oho, and it's opening day here in B'more, which means that I'll be riding home with drunken disgruntled Orioles fans.  (I'm 2 blocks north of the ballpark).  Usually I like walking out at lunch and getting a hotdog & some peanuts on opening day. but not even in the mood to do that today

My goal is to just get through this week. Next week we'll play things by ear.
Well, by the end of the day, I officially have Cankles.

oooho so sexayyyyyyyy

This day/past 2 days have been cray-zee.

Judd's sick with some kind of bug - so much so that he not only stayed home from work yesterday AND today, but was too sick to play his new X-box game, which is really saying something.

Meanwhile, life trudges on.........

Met w/ pediatrician #2 today )

Cagily leaving hints about a pressie )

Random thoughts about having a really good pregnancy, and the downside of it! )

Went to see Matisyahu last night for what will undoubtedly be my last pre-baby live music experience.

I went expecting to see a Hasicic Beatboxing Reggae artist.
I did not expect to see a crowd surfing dwarf .
Neither did I expect to nearly get into a fight with an a-hole who tried to push me out of my 'viewing spot'.

now I gotcha! )

I'm not one on tshirts with words, and even less so on tshirts that announce that I'm pregnant, but this is the cutest shirt ever, and had I seen it before I went to Mexico, it would have been mine.  Seems kinda silly to order it now.

Reads:  "Viva la Panza!" which transulates as "Hooray for the belly!"

This one's fun, too, and was just posted in [livejournal.com profile] naturalbirth.  I think it would go over big in my yoga and hypno classes :)
Lets review my food intake this morning:

7:30 - BIG bowl of steel cut oats w/ 1/4 apple, handful of walnuts, sprinkle of brown sugar; 1 glass OJ
9:50 - 2 doughnut holes
10:15 - half of my lunch (peanut butter & jelly. shut up)
10:35 - Pulled out second half of sandwitch 3 times only to put it away again. Made cup of tea.
10:50 - small bag (about 20) brachs valentines hearts (still fresh and tasty!!)

Last night as we were coming back from hypno class, I saw a Burger King and started salivating. mmmm...flame broiled.... No, I didn't get a burger, but boy did I want one......

Oho, and throughout the morning, have consumed about 48oz of water.

Yesterday was the first day that I really felt the full effects (for a full day!) of pregnancy/extra weight gain.  My left hip is killing me.  The ONLY thing that really helped was a bath last night.  My usual remedies (light exercise, switching chairs, tylenol, sitting on an exercise ball, walking around in my socks) did nothing for me at all.  AND it appears that its still bothering me this morning. Yippee!  Thankfully, have my prenatal massage booked for Friday.  Hope I can wait that long.

Oh yeah, and Target.com?  You can kiss my arse.  You can take your $9.99/each item shipping charge and shove it.  There's no way I'm paying $20 in shipping for curtain valances that only cost $13 a piece.

On a more successful shopping note, ordered my
Miracle Blanket last night AND a Sidecar SlingI was about to go with a hotsling, but had a babycenter.com GC, and they don't carry hotslings in my size.  Read quite a few good reviews of SS, and like that its cotton AND has a hidden pocket for keys, etc, AND its reversable! I'm going to get a Mei Tei for when baby gets a bit older, but def wanted a sling for the early weeks/months.

Isn't the print loverly?  It kind of reminds me of the cover of a Primal Scream album, no?

My schedule the past few days caught up with me this monring and made it SO hard to get out of bed.    Last night I got suckered into watching olympic skaters and went to bed nearly 2 hours later than I have been.

Had my first hypnobirthing class last night - seems good, but it was just the overview.  Definatly wearing yoga pants and a sports bra next time!!!  We watched a couple of  videos, but no big gory ones (or maybe my reading of Ina May's Natural Childbirth prepared me!!)  We started w/ a Dateline NBC segment about hypno from 1991, which was v. interesting.   Did a 'small' hypno session of simple visualization, and as predicted, I think all of the guys fell asleep!

Leaving work a bit early tonight to stop by the American Craft Coucil show at the convention center.  I love the glass and decorative fiber people.  Not looking for anything particular, but always find a little bauble or two to pick up.  Look how nummy these scarves are!  I'm intrigued by these felt neckaces -- they remind me of some of the home-creations that [livejournal.com profile] banshee posts!    OOohho to have a crafting space again....and the time to play around!!

Otherwise, the co-ed "baby bash" is tomorrow, and all I'm expecting is some good neopolitian pizza with friends, so if there's anything more, I'll be pleasantly surprised.

I forsee both a salvation army trip and a dump run in my future to move the large pile that's growing on the back porch, but other than that, should be a quiet ekend!

yada yada

Feb. 6th, 2006 11:14 am
Weekend was pretty non-eventful....a few naps, some errands run, nice dinner with friends, yoga...

long version )

Big furniture deliverys today -- our dining room table is FINALLY here, and the crib, which I ordered last week, will be here today, too. Being as next week my parents visit and take the guest room bed w/ them, this marks the Offical Beginning of Nursery Prep time. EEEKKKK!!!!
well, I'm sorta tanned (stoopid clouds!), very rested (comfiest bed on earth), and sorta ready to be back at work so here goes the wrapup! I'll hopefully upload pics tonight -- have to weed through about 130 to delete the duplicates, crop, etc.

Overall, had a nice time, 1st time at an all-inclusive, and probably the last time.  Pretty expensive vaca for us (even w/ free airfare and timeshare credit for the week -- we had to pay the all inclusive fee), as I doubt we'd ever come close to eating/drinking what we paid for if we were on our own (wouldn't have eaten as well, but still)  We felt SO isolated -- were we in Mexico, or at a resort? I'd say that most of the guests never left the grounds during their stay. Did a few day trips, but still felt like we didn't see Mexico.  Stuff was more expensive than I thought it would be in the markets.  Got lots of good sleep (asleep by 11, up around 7:30). Weather could have been better  -- didn't have one day that was sunny the whole day.

Resort itself: Beautiful -- you'd never know that there was a hurricane 4 months ago. Rooms were great - we were on the 3rd floor, so had zero noises from other guests. Had a big jacuzzi tub that I really enjoyed (and yes, kept the water temp below 100') on several occassions.  Beach was pretty, but it was so windy that it wasn't comfortable to sit out there, and the water was pretty chilly.  Poolside was better (and had better chairs), and had minimal 'group activities' going on.  Some of the activities people got annoying (dude, if I WANTED to play beach volleyball, I'd come up and play - and no, don't put a monkey on me and take my picture).  Wasn't too much of a party scene (one of the bars had bad cover bands/dj where tons of people danced all night long - um, no thanks)

Food/Drink:  Overall good, and on one occassion VERY good, but not the Best Food Ever Eaten as proclaimed by several reviews on Tripadvisor.  There were 6 different sit-down resteraunts, and ate at every one at least once.  Had brick oven pizza & burgers poolside, free room service (but needed more 'snack' things on the menu).  Drinks were okay according to Judd (could have used a bit more alcohol), but my non-alcoholic Mango Coladas and Frozen Lemonades were quite tasty. Drank copious amounts of mineral water w/ lime which was oho so tasty, and probably more $$ than the swill beer they were serving.   Overall, feeling is that you get more when you're paying for it on the spot, but think we tended to expect more than most of the other guests.  Service was good in most cases - a bit rushed through dinner at a few places.  Neither of us got the tinest bit sick from food/drink.

Other Guests:  We decided that there were about 4 kinds of guests there:  honeymooners/younger couples, the 50+ yr olds who are starting to enjoy life again, the 'party couples' in their 40-50's who meet up every year there and just party their asses off, and the Wedding Groups.   There were about 5 groups of Partiers and each had their own 'ringleader' Some of these groups formed during the week, others were regular visitors.  Fun people watching, but the groups def. got annoying after a couple of days.  Loads of Canadians, lots of Brits, a few Dutch/German, and the rest Americans.

Day Trips:  Judd went kiteboarding 2x (I went, um, Lounge Chair Napping), we went on a full-day snorkeling trip to Xel-Ha, spent an afternoon making our way through Playa Del Carmen, and hired a car to take us on a half day trip to the ruins at Tulum.  Xel-ha was cool (didn't pay the extra $120 to swim with dolphins), but I much prefer beach reef snorkeling, ala Hanauma Bay in Hawaii.  Tulum was very cool, and really liked the area.  If we were to go back, I'd try to find a hotel in that area.

Misc PG notes
--I love Old Navy's maternity tankini suits. SO comfy, fit well, didn't make me feel like a whale.
--Swimming and snorkeling while PG is awesome - I felt about 1/3 of my weight and could move very easily.
--Didn't have alcohol pushed on me, and also wasn't given the Evil Eye when I had a rare glass of wine or mimosa.
--I got really use to having someone pull out a chair for me and push it in and open doors.  Everyone got that kind of treatment, but really miss it.  Must train Judd better!
--Sat through a timeshare sales pitch (it was a cool cloudy morning, so no lost sun time), and got $100 spa credit.  Got okay mani/pedi but for $90, I expected to at least get a topcoat on my nails.....

Its pretty dismal here today. Things on my hit list today, as I think all contributed to my restlessness last night:

1) The Cold v. 3.0 WTF? I'm NEVER sick, and have had 3 colds since November?!?!

2) the weather house was about 68' last night - we usually cut the heat wayy down so its more like 60, but it was so freakishly warm outside that the inside temps never fell. Oho, and temps are suppose to plummet today, going from 59 this AM to 35 by this afternoon.

3) my new nemesis, The Snoogle Pillow. Have officially decided that I hate this. Can't roll over easily due to the the 'curly' bits at the top/bottom, and it gets flat in the wrong places. I like to sleep with my legs straighter, and the stoopid curly end keeps hitting me in the crotch. I think I threw it on the floor at about 3 am, only to fall over it at 5:30 when I got up to blow my nose.

And the good thing:
FINALLY got my oho so sexy thigh high compression stockings yesterday. Actually, they're much more attractive than they sound, just look like thick pantyhose. Color is a pretty good 'leg color' match, meaning a shade or two below the dreaded "Suntan" Took about 10 minutes to get them on, but feel SO much better than normal pantyhose (no nasty waistband digging into me! No sagging crotch!) and, since you can customize the size per thigh/calf size, aren't even beginning to slip down or start rolling, despite having to run for the train this AM.

I just realized I used the word crotch twice in this post.

horrible commute aside, its gonna be a loooong day.  Why?  Because my husband's turned into an insominac.

I woke up at 3 and he had the tv on, albiet low, but still on.  Normally, it won't bother me, but of course, this morning, it drove me nuts.  He said he woke up around 2 and couldn't go back to sleep.  Well, um, watching tv and laughing/snorting at an old Conan obrien ain't gonna make you tired.

He finally turned it off and read for a while, and I tossed around a bit more and eventually fell back asleep, but that was probably after an hour.  Grr.  The tired headache is already starting.

The night before, my sleep wasn't great, as The Snoogle prevents me from really rolling over, and thus I spend far too long on one side, making the subsequent hip feel like its rusted.

fan.fuckin'.tastic.  I'm def. going to go home early, as I can't operate like this.  I feel hung over.......

  • In reviewing upcoming concerts in Baltimore/DC (as my quest is to find a good club show before Baby W gets here), my options as of today include:
--RJD2 at the 930 club (love his last album, dunno how he is live)..BUT it's a Saturday night, so may be my best option
--Nada Surf and Rogue Wave at 8x10 in Baltimore (pure indie bliss, good venue, but not really what I've been craving)
--I'd love to see Fiona Apple, but she's touring w/ Coldplay in the Massive Stadium Tour, so not interested.

  • I want to marry Chipolte's chicken burrito. Usually, I'll get one and eat half for lunch then, the other half the next day. Yesterday, big ol' me crammed the ENTIRE thing down my throat. YUM to the nth degree.

  • Our trip to Playa del Carmen has the most messed up flights ever. Schedule changes galore, but at least we're on the Sat-Sat flights now as opposed to Sat - Friday, thus we get to take advantage of the full week. I'm desperate to find an alternative to the Baltimore-atlanta-mexico city-cancun route down there, and even the really nice and sympathetic guy on the phone this monring could only bump my priority up on the ATL directly to Cancun leg. Maybe I can beg for an upgrade instead......

  • Cross your fingers for me that I will win my auction to get The Big Stroller I Love for $150 off the MSRP.

  • My right leg is killing me. Specifically, the horrific looking vericose vein that has developed in the past week. Itchy, throbby, achy, and oho so lovely. Its at the top of my calf, so those elastic stockings would dig right into it. I've got a midwife appt today, so hopefully will get a few other suggestions for home remedies. I knew this was coming, as both my mom and grandma were sufferes.

Just had a total Britney pregnant moment:  am TOTALLY hard core craving Cheetos right now.

I have a nice beef & barley soup waiting for me, but think that I will partake in a small bag-o-cheetos right now.

Yum
Orangy goodness.......

- On the way to the post office this morning, was following a dualie pickup truck..you know the kind, all flashy, the "bad boy" logo on the back window, never been off road, etc.  Hanging from the back bumper were a pair of, well, rubber balls.  And I mean balls as in testes.  NICE.

- Got an email from the wife of my concert-english footy-pal who I thought I'd seen over the summer.  Email was announcing the birth of their son.  Considering that I didn't even know that she was preg, guess its been much longer than I thought since I'd seen 'em.  This is the major indie-hipster couple, so can't wait to hear the details.  Interesting fact that the baby's last name is hers, not his (she kept her maiden name).  At first, I thought that they may have seperated, but no.   Maybe she just likes her last name better than "Beaver" which is his...

-Had my last prenatal yoga class of this session - we ended with a little ceremony/ritual of lighting a candle which represented our lives pre baby, then light a new one to be 'with baby', bringing all of what we are to the present, then blowing out the first.  We then thought of all that is yet to come, from the first smile to the first words to sooth a broken heart.  Yeah, all 6 of us were tearing up.   Definately will be taking the late winter session from Jan - April.

-Went to friend's big annual Christmas party this weekend, complete with wacky/desirable Secret Santa (target price of $15).  My contribution was the Star Wars Pez Collection, and it was stolen several times.  I wound up with a Lovey Lamb inflatable, um, love sheep.  Surprisingly, no one stole it from me.   I think it may come in handy to hand to Judd in the coming months when I'm REALLY not in the mood :P
