The fall festival is one of my favorite fall traditions, and it was just plain gross yesterday. It was 90' F 92' F yesterday (33' C for you Euro and Canadian friends), and completely unsuitable for pumpkin hunting, cider drinking, and caramel corn eating. We cut our visit short but hope to get back down there before Halloween. I dont know how you people in the deep south and warmer climates do it.....

Guess What?!, its Fall Barfest (that's Barf Fest, not Bar Fest, in case you were wondering :P) 2007 here in the W house...... Ben started last night when I was picking him up at daycare and has been unable to keep anything other than a sip of water down (and FURIOUS when I don't fill his cup). He's kept some water and motrin down since 6, but now its moved through to the other end......

Ben woke up around 6 and we were able to get a little water and motrin in him and FINALLY get him to sleep again (on the floor in his room with me next to him) around 7. Crossing my fingers he'll be not the wee beastie today.....

AND I forgot! In between the barfing, he's a angry strong very squirmy monkey. I think I've been headbutted about a dozen times, and its a good thing I dont have exeternal reproductive organs, or else I'd be talking in a high voice now.

I'm guessing it will hit me on Saturday.
And Judd on Monday
Next weekend we're headed to NY/NJ for a wedding. Wedding is Saturday at noon in an old hotel, reception is at 1. Its going to be casual as weddings go, and I had dug up a pair of nice 'dress' khakis from Liam's stash for Ben to wear along with a new blue and white striped oxford and navy lace up shoes.

Then my mom says to me "oho, he's not wearing little boy dress shorts??"

So now, a week before we leave, I'm searching on Talbots kids and ebay for navy blue dress shorts. I think I'll still leave him in his blue and white shirt and socks.

eeewwwwww!!!, originally uploaded by vernacular.

from a *technical* standpoint, not a fan of this - Ben's face is out of focus and didn't have enough natural light, so popup flash came on and didn't have enough time to get the speedlight...................but had I done all of that, would have missed the fun...

Sammy always enjoys dinnertime.....and Ben loves feeding Sammy.

more photos, some big! )

full disclosure: did some adjusting of midtones in photoshop - it seems that most of my outdoor shots are 1 stop overexposed for my tastes.....

overall VR lens notes:
--I need to get more comfortable with panning.
--REALLY impressed how quickly it focuses
--love that a tulip lens hood came with it - never had one before and loved it outside today
--think that the VR is more 'valuable' for zoom than for lower light, esp considering my subject matter these days.

Thus far, quite happy!
Ben at work!

It looks like I only have one arm....and I think the office's digicam is the crappiest on the planet

~Brought Ben into work for the afternoon yesterday (it was bring you kid to work day, after all!) I brought him in the stroller and carried him in the sling on my hip, which is something that I haven't done in ages.  He fit perfectly in there, and the bright green sling looked nice with my shirt(:P) He was awesome - we visited a few coworkers for a little while, then I plopped him down on a blanket with a bucket of cheerios, cup of water and some toys. He entertained himself for about 90 minutes.    I miss my little coworker today :(

~Judd has his wisdom teeth out on Wed.  He's doing about a billion times better than I did 15 years ago, but all of mine we impacted and none of his were.  Last night, Ben at more 'solid' food than Judd did.  ha!

~I don't usually get sentimental or happy about the news these days, but the story about Stephen Hawking riding the vomit comet is a great story.  Why hadn't he done this before??

~there was a story on the news (yesterday's Today show?) about the reemergence of Wet Nurses.  Some women pay $1k a week for someone else to nurse their kid!  I'm super pro-bf, but if I couldn't for some reason, my kid would be getting formula. I MIGHT investigate a milk bank, and could maybe fathom having a trusted friend/family who was currently BF feed him on an emergency basis, but regularly?  uh no.

~in a similar vein, was watching Planet Earth / Shallow Seas and learned that a 1 year old Blue Whale drinks 137 gallons of milk a day.  WOAH!

~I finally got my work desktop computer converted to a laptop/workstation.  I've got a Dell Latitude D260, which works just fine, but the screen sucks.  I've been REALLY spoiled with my Mac....   It IS nice to be able to connect wirelessly at home, though, but the whole touchpad/eraser curser thing sucks.  Again, Apple's seems so much easier to use.

Day one
birthday

Day 365

happy birthday to ME!

I'm not 'sad' about today...yes, Ben is no longer an infant but its been amazing watching him grow this past year.

Looking back on the year, I've learned SO MUCH (starting with How to Hold a Baby!), and we've been lucky that Ben is such an easy going kid. I don't think I could have been as sane as I have been without all of you...yes, I do trust my instincts, but knowing that others are dealing with the same things (sleep, poop, etc) makes it all a lot less scary.

I'd repeat the first year in a heartbeat.
Apparantly the Fairies flew in and stole my baby and replaced him with a Baby Who Does Not Sleep.

We've been lucky up until recently.....
Ben is 10 months old and STTN(7 - 7) from about 3 months until 7 months.
From 7-10 months, usually woke up once between 3:30 and 6, I nursed him, and he'd sleep until 8:30

The past few nights:
sleep at 7/8ish without a fuss
12:00 wake, scream uncontrollablly, fall asleep w/o nursing but with us going in, patting him, cuddling,
12:30, wake, scream, fall asleep WITH nursing
1:15-ish, wake, scream, fall back asleep without nursing, but with the holding/patting. Sometimes give him teething tablets at this time
3:00 - wake, fuss, puts self back to sleep
6:00 - wake, fuss, nurse, back asleep
7:30 wake for good in happy playful mood.

He's teething a little bit, but nothing too badly. Not sick (well, always has a cold, but not worse than normal)....

I'm a bit embarassed to admit that I haven't read any of the sleep books.....because he has no problems at bedtime!! Are there any that you can recommend for handing the freakish wake-all-night long kid?

Off for more coffee, and I don't even DRINK coffee.
We here at the W household are Champions of Sleep.

Seriously.

Ben went to bed at 8 last night, Judd and I went to bed around 11
Ben woke for night feeding (Judd w/ pumped milk) at 2. I didn't hear them. He goes right back to sleep

Judd's alarm goes off at 6; Ben wakes for morning feeding.
Judd hits snooze - says he'll workout this afternoon. I feed Ben and put him back to bed.

We then wake up at 9:00am

This happened yesterday AND this morning.
I'd feel a bit guilty except I'm so well rested.....

most do something productive. will wash and wax car today

Okay kids, the paper products beast in me is in full effect -- I'm working on birth announcements. I'm going to pick one from Amber's In a baby carriage. She's undergone some changes since I last looked, and while I still love the double sided panelcards, its def. cheaper (we're talking a bout 50% cheaper) to do the photocards.

I had planned on putting our website/Benjamin's photo site/LJ info on the cards, but can't have that printed up with the photocards. So my quandry......how to include this without it being a pain?
