Ben is officially turned into a I Hate To Sleep Kid.

We've never had to sleep train him, but the day of his party (technically, day 367) he decided that its more fun to stand up and scream instead of sleeping. That night, it took about 2 1/2 hours to get him to sleep.

Last night, it was about 45 minutes, so at least that's an improvement.

Right now, he's shreiking and we're on Nap Attempt #3.

Here's what we do:
-lay him down, pat back/tummy (whatever's up)
-he sits up and starts crying before I leave the room.
-he pulls self up and starts screaming.
-I got back in a few minutes later, lay him down, offer him some water, and we repeat #1 again.

I know that this is just a phase by PLEASE let this pass quickly. I know he's just excited about his new skills (just pulled himself up last week), and may be going through some seperation anxiety, but LORD of HELL this sucks.

party and photo session update later.....hopefully once he naps.....
I'm not going to post about the way that Ben has been waking up for the past 3 nights with what I can only define as infant Night Terrors (zero to screaming 3 hrs after going to bed; fighting us when we pick him up; pretty much inconsolible; only stops screaming when we bring him into the brightly lit bathroom; takes 1 hr to get him back to sleep.....)

Instead, I'm going to express my outrage at the explosion of '55 or better' communities* that are sprouting up in the DC/Baltimore area. Um, we ain't Tuscon. Not Sarasota. Nope, not outside of Austin or the Raleigh/Durham area either.......

What's the cause of my outrage? This Neighborhood
The location is perfect
The water access is perfect
and most importantly, the SCALE of the houses is perfect.

you can't FIND reasonable scale new single family houses in this area. They're all 4 bedroom monstrocities that have an office, sitting room, master suite with kitchenette, bonus room, media room...(aka unneeded usless spaces)

*the big caviat on these is "no permanant residents under 19". I guess I could pretend that Ben is a pet......and any future pregnancies are 'medical conditions' :P
Apparantly the Fairies flew in and stole my baby and replaced him with a Baby Who Does Not Sleep.

We've been lucky up until recently.....
Ben is 10 months old and STTN(7 - 7) from about 3 months until 7 months.
From 7-10 months, usually woke up once between 3:30 and 6, I nursed him, and he'd sleep until 8:30

The past few nights:
sleep at 7/8ish without a fuss
12:00 wake, scream uncontrollablly, fall asleep w/o nursing but with us going in, patting him, cuddling,
12:30, wake, scream, fall asleep WITH nursing
1:15-ish, wake, scream, fall back asleep without nursing, but with the holding/patting. Sometimes give him teething tablets at this time
3:00 - wake, fuss, puts self back to sleep
6:00 - wake, fuss, nurse, back asleep
7:30 wake for good in happy playful mood.

He's teething a little bit, but nothing too badly. Not sick (well, always has a cold, but not worse than normal)....

I'm a bit embarassed to admit that I haven't read any of the sleep books.....because he has no problems at bedtime!! Are there any that you can recommend for handing the freakish wake-all-night long kid?

Off for more coffee, and I don't even DRINK coffee.
there must be something going around with LJ babies, as it seems as none of 'em are sleeping these days!

so, in an open letter to Ben: Yo, enough with the 5:00am wakings. You'll be up in 2 hours. just CHILL. (at least thanks for going back to sleep, though)

He's been fighting a cold for nearly 2 weeks now, and called the Ped last night. She recommended Robotussin pediatric cough & cold. Dosed him last night and this morning, dont think it helped. Suctioned the hell out of his lil nose with good results, but boy is that a pain.

Going to leave work a bit early for my big plan of a co-nap with Ben this afternoon. Its windy for once here, so Judd's going to finally be able to play with his Land Board meaning he won't be home until dark.
Last night was a bear.....I realize how lucky I am that Ben sleeps thru the
night, but nights like last make it REALLY hit home.

Poor kid has a stuffed nose, and a humidifier + saline drops barely help. He
woke at 9 abd 2 miserable. Nursed him to sleep at 2 and tried to put him in
his bouncer which is slightly inclined, but he wouldn't have any of it.
Think we'll prop up the mattress tonight, but he moves around so much that
he'll probably wind up downhill.

For me, its coughing and runny nose time, and -surprise!!!- suspected pink
eye. Joy joy

And to make it even more fun, Judd thinks he's coming down w/ it, too, abd we
all know how men handle being sick......at least he can take sudafed and
dimetapp.

3pm can't come soon enough
I'm not ready to shout praises of joy just yet, but again, Ben had an awesome night of sleep

Last feeding - 7:00
In bed by 7:45 - no squalks or need to be soothed
awoke at 4:45 - nursed for 20 minutes
back in bed by 5:05
awoke for day at 8:45

Oho, and only one arm swaddled, and no paci. He pulled the 2nd arm out pretty much as soon as he was wrapped, so I'm going to just ditch the Miracle Blanket tonight and see how it goes.

It would be AWESOME if this sleep pattern keeps up, esp once I go back to work. Idealy, both Judd and I will get up around 6, I'll feed Ben, put him back to bed. Judd will work out, I'll get ready to leave. Ben will sleep until Judd's done getting ready and he'll get changed and dropped at Daycare.

(i know the way things work is that Ben's sleep will be perfect UNTIL we need him on a 'schedule')
We here at the W household are Champions of Sleep.

Seriously.

Ben went to bed at 8 last night, Judd and I went to bed around 11
Ben woke for night feeding (Judd w/ pumped milk) at 2. I didn't hear them. He goes right back to sleep

Judd's alarm goes off at 6; Ben wakes for morning feeding.
Judd hits snooze - says he'll workout this afternoon. I feed Ben and put him back to bed.

We then wake up at 9:00am

This happened yesterday AND this morning.
I'd feel a bit guilty except I'm so well rested.....

most do something productive. will wash and wax car today
