sleepyy sleep....
Oct. 5th, 2005 03:00 pmLast night I dreamt about baby slings and high school classmates who I never interacted with even while in school....seriously, the most random people imaginable.

I wonder if 2:30 is going to be my new 'wall' to hit every afternoon. I am struggling to keep awake again today.

Even thought I went home early yesterday, I didn't get a nap due to the call I got from Dixie -- she was calling from the hospital as her father, who was visiting from NY, basically collapsed with chest pains as they were having lunch in DC. After much anxiety, dozens of phone calls, and many tests, the doctors determined that it was not a heart attack, but the Big Warning. He should be released today, and her parents will head back to NY in a couple of days. Bypass is scheduled soon....so overall, things look okay, but with some challenges ahead.
+++++
I am not a big fan of the Family Amazing Race. Boooorrring. Locals/challenges aren't doing it for me. Are they going to stay in the US the entire time??
As for the big reflecting pool in DC screwup, I have to admit that I, too, would have gone to the big reflecting pool. I consider myself as much as a DC native as possible without living actually IN the district. I studied the design and L'Enfant's original plan. My thesis advisor wrote a book on the Development of the National Mall. I never knew that the pool on the west side of the Capitol was called the reflecting pool I would have looked at the clue and said "they don't know what they're talking about" That would have been a mighty big piece o' humble pie I'd be eating...
Haven't watched the 2nd half - fell asleep....
+++++
Highlight of yesterday was receiving my new phone. Verizon must hate me, because I ended up paying $2.50 for the phone, won't download more than 1-2 ringtones at the MOST, won't sign up for unlimited text/pix/flix, won't get the 'v-cast' streaming video clips. I use my phone for , um, PHONE CALLS. how odd. I like the speakerphone and bluetooth, though.......

Date: 2005-10-05 07:45 pm (UTC)I think its fortunate that her parents were here when it happened so they had instant help around...I can imagine nothing worse than the "you dad had a heart attack" phonecall.....
Funny thing is that he manages the 911 call center in his county, and when his coworkers heard the news, they offered to send an ambulance down to pick him up! Luckily, he won't need that - he can't drive, but if he's comfortable sitting, than they can drive back home.

Date: 2005-10-05 07:57 pm (UTC)I've owned a cell phone for less than a year. It was free. It's not even a flip phone. Doesn't have a camera in it. I don't use text messaging. I'm a pretty boring cell phone owner.
