For the purposes of this poll, lets assume that 'yard' is either the very edge of your yard or the little strip between the sidewalk and the street.  Also, lets assume that the owner of the house/yard isn't in the front yard looking at you!

[Poll #491098]

My answer to the third question is hypothetical as we don't have a dog. My last dog was the family dog, and my parents live in an area where people have a few acres, so pooping along the side of the road isn't a no-no. Where my husband and I now live, I would clean up the poop as it's peoples' 1/4 acre yard, and it is visible/offensive. Our neighbors' dogs pee in our yard (have witnessed, plus get yellow snow) a bunch, and I've noticed poop about once or twice. The neighbors know we're okay with dogs, but they do try to keep the dogs in their own yards.

I usually don't worry about it if I know that they're 'dog neighbors', but there's the occasional mean little old lady who peeks out of her window every time someone walks by....I don't go NEAR her grass!

Haha!

It's good for the grass, right? *shrug*

not Sammy's pee -- he's been known to cause a bunch of yellow burn-out patches all throughout the yard!

Most of the time when we're "walking" the dogs it's on a trail where they can run off leash. The answers to the last question were if we were walking around in a neighborhood. If we're out on a trail and the dogs poop we leave it. I'm sure that there are times they run off and go and we don't even know it. If they were to go on or right near the trail though we'd do our best to move it out of the way.

Ha! B&H are what Judd calls "sneaky poopers!"

I so wish Sammy would learn to always go in the wooded area of our yard where we don't walk.....

This is a good poll, because I always wonder about this. I wish that I could have the dogs poop only at home, but they are not so cooperative in this matter. I try to keep them off of peoples lawns in general (though not the strip by the road), but sometimes poop happens. Wherever it happens, I pick it up and move on. I feel guilty when it happens though, even though I'm doing my best to be responsible. :-/

I TRY to get Sammy up to the park at the top of our hill to poop, but won't linger there for 20 minutes waiting for him to smell everything.....otherwise, I try to hurry him along & not go on the 'strip' unless its trash day - I don't want to carry that bag around for the rest of our walk!

I have been a dog owner, and am a frequent in house dog sitter, and my take is: Try to not let them pee on someone's yard (use the median or something) and no matter where you are, pick up the poop. The wood, the park, a yard, the street - I don't care where, pick it up. There are parks in the city you can barely use because of all the dog crap (the one on Falls Road, Robert E. Lee I think, was shut down for awhile because all the dog poop contaminated the ground and the water). I'd like to ramble about the city parks more than I do (and ones in the country and suburbia, we go out a lot) and it's a pain the ass dodging the dog mess.

This is why I don't own a dog right now - are yard is not large enough, and I don't feel like walking/picking up, so for now we wait.

I don't have a dog and never have so I figured that meant I'm not a dog person. I do like dogs though. Our neighbor lets their dog pee and poop in our yard and it drives me crazy. The pee leaves the yellow grass burn spots and well the poop is just nasty. We've mentioned it to them and they say that they don't let it happen but we've seen their dog in our yard and know it is their dog. If they cleaned up the poop I'd be happier, but I still wouldn't like the pee stains.
