jacking pipe
Mar. 4th, 2005 10:12 amyesterday's field trip w/ the engineering guys to a constuction job where we're jacking a 48' wide stormdrain pipe was eventful. It was FREEEZING and windy, and the big puffy coat, long johns, hat, hard hat, steel toe boots and gloves made walking quite cumbersome.....add 8-12" of mud, and you've got aching legs at the end of the day.
I'm playing at home today w/ the parents...but have picked up the beginnings of an icky cold, so bring on the Zicam and tea....
This is basically a massive drill, that cores its way through the soil and pushed the big sections of concrete pipe up. This thing will eventally be about 800 feet long and you don't even know its going in except at the start and finish points. It ain't cheap, but its the only way to provide the new stormdrainage in this area....
