they are! When I was in high school, I use to do admin assistance stuff for a guy who studied cheetahs (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/0312272863/qid=1107553398/sr=8-1/ref=sr_8_xs_ap_i1_xgl14/102-8975680-3856159?v=glance&s=books&n=507846) so I'm biased. Never got to 'meet' one in person, unfortunately.......
the scientist guy I use to work had a cat that was a cross breed of a cheetah and a tabby cat. why you may ask? Because cats get cancer, and cheetahs are immune to it. He had bred them to hopefully isolate the gene for immunity.
I don't have any pics of it, but it was the cutest cat ever, comlete with the black 'tears'.. Nasty little keeden, though...
