notes on today's events:
-I can't believe how many people are in DC....I knew the mall would be packed, but the shots showing the bridges and the cross streets packed edge to edge? holy CRAP that's a lot of people
-I've been entertained by what's happening on the ground, via the WPost's Getting There blog
-Now that Cheney is in a wheelchair, the conversion to Mr Burns is complete.
-Malia and Sasha look beautiful and are dressed so age apporpiratley. I love that Malia had her camera everywhere!
-I really hope Michelle Obama's coat/dress has a hidden fleece lining, because it does NOT look warm!!
-Barbara Bush looked awesome! She looked the same as she did 20 years ago!
-where are the hats for the VIPs?! Only Bush Sr had one that I saw, and his was a goofy fur bomber hat, but at least he was warm
-Oho Aretha. The hat. Well, I guess she's the only one that can get away with it.....
-who thought that the Cheif Justice's flubbing of the oath was a consiracy? It wasnt until after it was all over that I heard that he, not Obama, screwed it up. Total cringe moment, and way to ruin the best soundbite of the decade.
-I thought the speech was wonderful, and oddly a bit more 'pointed' that other inagural speeches I remember. Almost more state-of-the Union, like.
-the Poem was horrid. I'm sorry. The delivery wasn't my favorite, either.... I know she's already held the position, but today SCREAMED for the words and voice of Maya Angelou...
-the Bush send off was nice - I do feel that the Obamas view their predecessors with the utmost of respect. Its got to be a lonely job, and even if you dont agree w/ the politics, at least you can sympathize with the task that you're handing off.
-Laura Bush had to be the happiest person in DC today -- she can finally be a private citizen again
what did you guys pick up?

Date: 2009-01-20 07:57 pm (UTC)The morning show was joking that George & Laura had a car running out back to make their escape as soon as possible. Maybe in my lifetime, Laura will say something SMART like "Yeah, sorry America, the man really IS an idiot." That would be priceless.
