house lust

there's a few things I'd change (chalk blue toilets?!), but am lusting after this house. Too bad Judd has nixed it for 'overly wooded yard' we havent seen it in person, but know that trees can be removed for a price, if, infact, they're as bad as he thinks........

I'm dreaming about that courtyard....and the proximity to the paths and the lake....and MY GOD the windows!!!

That house is bad ass!

.....and its even more bad ass as there's only a handful of the mid-century-big-window style that I've ever seen in our area. MUST drag Judd out to see it!!

wow! what an awesome house!

it was built just a few years after mine and for whatever reason, colored bathroom fixtures were really popular back then! We had 1 blue bathroom and 1 pink - we've redone the blue one, haven't made it to the pink on yet.

We demolished our pink bathroom a couple of years ago (just pink floor and tile). My parents bought a house a few years back that was all Brown, including the toilet. I thought it would let you go longer between cleanings :P

we had a blue floor, blue tub and tile around it, blue toilet and blue sink/countertop. There was blue wallpaper on 1 1/2 walls and you could see where the other walls were once painted blue (had been repainted off-white). it was like a smurf explosion!

my Mom thinks we have to redo the pink bathroom before we can sell this house but a lot of the houses around here still have the colored fixtures (my Mom is NC - totally different housing market there).

What are people thinking with kitchen light fixtures like that? Replaceable, yes, but silly owners :)

The courtyard would be a dream for Ben to play in. That's one of my few regrets with this house - no side driveway or really good play area that isn't a front driveway right by the road.

I like the screened in patio & the backyard doesn't seem to be too tree filled. Shade is a nice thing! (Says the new subdivision dweller with sticks for trees!)

I keep trying to tell Judd that no trees is worse than trees....I also think that getting there and looking around makes it feel better than looking at aerial shots. Houses that might look like remote cabins from the air are fine when you get there.....

all that said, I DO think there's enought against this house to make us pass it by, especially at that price.

And krikeys - you guys have LOW taxes in MD!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Our house was less expensive and we pay about 3x that in taxes. WTF?!

From: [identity profile] vernacular-life.livejournal.com
the taxes for that house are a bit low...most are closer to $6500, which i thought was bad until I started looking at other parts of the country!

we gotcha on closing costs, though, as Maryland's are the highest in teh country, usually about 8% of the sale, so we had to save up for ages to just even afford to close on our first house!!!

Wow! Yes, closing costs around here are maybe $5K for a home in that range. Do you guys also pay personal property tax? I know my friends in VA were shocked by that.

hah no kidding. we are looking at houses in texas that cost less than that and the taxes are way higher. But texas has no state income tax, so they have to tax the crap out of property to get any money.

why does judd think trees are a NEGATIVE?! holy crap, I love all those trees! then again, I'd live in the middle of the woods if I could and I hated living in the concrete jungle of boston, so...

we've been fighting trees at our house that make grass impossible and (he things) harbor every spider in the world. I <3 trees. I would live in a tree cave if possible. He just hates overgrown trees

well, it's a VERY COOL house and I think you should get him to at least look at it. :)

also, do you want some of those root beer lollipops? not to rush you or anything, but I've got the car all week and am looking for things to do during the day, so I'd love an excuse to stop by See's!

I love this house! The windows are definitely awesome. And I love the yard. Since we have some woods around us I actually like the feel. And it's a bonus that you have the option of flinging poop into the woods with a shovel. ;)

You've hit on one massive benefit to woods which Judd doesn't think about :P

Ooooo. Me likey the look! The price, not so much! It does have tons and tons of potential, though!

yeah, not enamored of the price, esp considering the amount of work that I'd like to do in there. Since we're nowhere close on even listing our house, I'm just going to watch it and see if it drops....

I really like the house. Especially the trees and screened in porch. Plus the fact that it really seems to have a lot of space inside and doens't look in bad shape. I think you should at the least go drive by and see the outside in person.
