My parents announced that next Summer, we will all go on a Cruise.  Family Cruise.  As in them, us, my brother and family.

I have never been on a cruise and am not really excited to go on one....SO if someone can help me out and suggest a non-disney, non beach (esp non Mexico) all inclusive type vaca where 6 adults and 3 kids would not kill themselves, PLEASE suggest and save me from a Carnival Cruise to Aruba.

please.

[I'd LOVE some type of mountain resort kind of thing....with a lake.......hm. maybe a houseboat?]
also, my dad would love to use Time Share swapping, so that's a bonus......

I think that, if you must cruise, an Alaskan cruise could be kind of awesome. Don't know what the kids would think about that, though.

I would love to do an Alaskan cruise (IMHO, the only 'okay' cruise aside from a total Old Money Cunard Europe cruise).

The down side is that they're not as convienent to get to from this area as the ones leaving Miami, but perhaps the overall happiness of the participants might outweigh that :)

My MIL suggests every year that we all go on a family cruise. I refuse to go. I get seasick very easily which is my reason even though she claims I won't get sick. How does she know? Lots of people do and I know myself and how easily I get it. I know that's of no help to you but if any of are prone to motion sickness it can't hurt to mention it as a reason not to go.

Does it have to be an all inclusive thing? You could easily find cabins in the mountains or on a lake to rent. Or even time shares I'm sure. What about something like one of the Great Wolf Lodges which is a big water park/hotel/resort?

I think an all inclusive would be pretty much needed - my parents HATE to spend money eating out, and its always a huge fight where to go, and my mom/dad usually end up getting angry at how much somethign costs and says repeatedly "you know how much shrimp I could get for the cost of ONE PLATTER!" AND my dad wont even look at a glass of wine if he has to drive in the next 8 hours, so self-contained would be WAY more relaxing.

Great Wolf Lodge is about 40 minutes from their house, but otherwise something like that could be fun....

why are you anti-mexico? i don't know. it could be fun for ben too.

i am actually thinking i'd really like to do a cruise with zachary sometime but he's not into beaches, so i'll be interested to see what kinds of options you can find. :)

heh..I'm not anti-Mexico, but my mom is (for no real reason) and my brother is (for living in El Paso for 5 years, even though that part of Mexico is a different world from the Maya Riveria).

I'm going to look into Alaskan cruises, but those get muy expensive....

If they are dead set on a cruise I would actually go on a Disney one if only because they are supposed to be great at keeping the kids entertained and have lots of free babysitting. Otherwise you know that you and Judd will be babysitting your nephews the entire time.

ha! I hadn't really processed the idea of us babysitting the nephews all the time, but yeah, you're right!

My mom is totally anti-Disney, so I don't know WHAT we're going to do.....
