new year, old cold
Jan. 3rd, 2005 11:17 amI'm dreading today....the beginning of my first full week of work since......October 18. Seriously. I just looked back, and every week since then I had at least a day off, dentist appt, stayed at home for a repair person, or had a meeting out of the office that I paired with either a lunch with a friend or going home early.
My weekend can be summed up in the following words: Hot Toddies, Sudafed, Sleep, bad movies.
I had Friday off, and succeeded in sleeping about 8 out of 18 waking hours. I literally dragged myself out of bed at 4:00pm so that I would have a hope of joining friends out for dinner. We did manage to rally to eat later that night at a so-so Thai place, and I can happily say that a gallon of lemongrass/chili soup loosened up my sinuses! We did follow everyone to a friend's house, but slinked out at about 11:00 as we knew that if we didn't leave then, it would be hours until we got home. Neither Judd nor I drank anything (well, I had a hot cocoa w/ peppermint schnapps, but that was more medicinal) & just really wanted to get home and get comfy.
Saturday was a little better, and thanks to the record high temps that day (a balmy 67 degrees) dragged ourselves out to the dog park to let Sammy play and get ourselves a little fresh air.
Sunday was the first day that I kind of felt human again....we rallied early and headed out to LL Bean (there's a store near us) to return some jeans that Judd got and use a GC from my bro. The store was pretty picked over (there were barely any lined pants for guys, and none of the women's clothes interested me), but Judd got a few nice shirts, some much-needed gloves, and I picked up a 'functional' winter/ski coat, as I felt stupid walking the dog in a leather jacket in the mornings. I have a nice waxed cotton Barbour jacket, but it's just really a big raincoat & has no warm lining. So I wound up with this -- not the sleek tailored look that I usually go for, but more practical for shoveling, clearing, and walking. It's one of those 3-in-1 coats, and the liner is basically a box-quilted puffy jacket, so should be quite useful. Boy is it toasty!

The other major thing I completed yesterday was picking photos for a 'year wrapup' album from Ofoto.. I've been meaning to do this, and they're offering a 20% discount if you spend over $30, so that motivated me to start putting it together. There's still a few things I need to correct/reupload, but I like that kind of thing, so it wasn't too bad. It was pretty user-friendly, but my only complaint is that so many of the photos have such short caption areas & you're limited by the layouts... I should be placing the order in the next few days, so I'll report back on how it looks..
And finally, long weekends + massive head colds = lots of movie watching. We didn't pick well:

Lame. Barely any laughs at all, and that's from someone who loves Vince Vaughn.

Incredibly long and stupid. SO many plot holes it wasn't funny. CZJ was as vapid and self centered as I imagine her to be in real life, and Hanks's character was insufferable. Waste of 2 hours.

The best of the bunch, and that ain't saying much. I love the Rock, and this was good in a "straightforward story w/ no CGI" kind of way. Wanted to watch this w/ commentary, but forgot and sent it back early....
Let's hope the next round is better: Garden State, Napolean Dynamite, Manchurain Candidate.....
