when will it stop?!
Sep. 27th, 2004 11:33 amUrgh.....weekend was packed full, and this week looks equally hectic. Thankfully, I carved out 2 hrs last night to take a bath, read & have a little wine (all the while Judd lost himself in Star Wars Battlefront, thinking I was only away for 30 minutes....)
Saturday was Plant Shopping Day
we're redoing the bed in front of the bay window. Here's an old picture before we pulled out the Ivy. We sowed a can of wildflowers this spring (which, btw, just looked like weeds) to deal with the spring/summer until we could come up with a planting plan for evergreen shrubs + perenials. After loads of books from the library, online searches, and discussions with horticulturists at work, I think we've got something that will work, so we make up a big list of plants & head out to the Oho-so-cool Homestead Gardens about 40 minutes away. Several hundred dollars and a carload of plants later, we start digging. Unfornately, Dopey Katherine sprayed Roundup on the bed, only afteward to learn that you should wait 2 days before planting where you sprayed. Doh!
The rest of Saturday was heading out again and buying 20 bags of topsoil and mulch. We did mucho hauling in the new vehicle.
Sunday was filled with lots of vaccuming and dusting, lots of swearing by Judd while digging holes in the front bed ever time he'd encounter another 4" thick root, some football, and an escaping dog. The stupid dog got out THREE times yesterday. We have no idea how. Well, we know the first 2 times, but then covered the area with wire fencing and he STILL got out. I think we'll have to tie a really long rope to his collar, wait in the front yard, and see where the rope is after he escapes.
We def. need to take a 6 pack of beer over to the neighbors who helped us chase him down 2 of the 3 times. So much for the "come!" lesson at obiedence school. (he does fine when its just us in the backyard, but get him in the open/around other dogs, fuhgetabout!)
we're suppose to go to DC tonight to see Flogging Molly, but think we'll eat the cost of the tix and just stay home and plant, as we've got heavy rains tomorrow & want to get everything in the ground.
*sigh* Such surburbanites.
