Any of you (
steen70?) know anything about Ogunquit, Maine?
Looks like a cute town for a summer vaca next year....
Is the water insanely cold in the summer?
and, more importantly, is this somewhere I could get a lobster roll?

Date: 2007-07-26 05:59 pm (UTC)Better than that ... just s. on Rte. 1 in York is Stonewall kitchen where you can sample & try all their sauces/jams etc. Wonderful. And my FAVORITE place EVER .... Pie in the Sky. It's a woman who turned her garage into a commercial grade bakery & cranks out lots of pies (blueberry and jumbleberry being my favorite) that are to absolutely DIE for. Oh ... please go & tell me about the pie. It's been years since I've had one.
Water is not "warm" ... but warmer in Ogonquit than the other Maine options. It's a lovely, quirky, artist town. Go ... you'll LOVE IT!

Date: 2007-07-27 05:29 pm (UTC)Cold water? Yes. Lobster rolls? Absolutely. Also great ice cream :) Oh, and outlet shopping nearby in Kittery. I think the area is beautiful; I've spent time there (in York and also right on the York/Ogunquit border) the last two summers. There's nothing quite like the Maine coastline, IMO.

Date: 2007-07-27 06:34 pm (UTC)I'm trying to do a condo timeshare swap, and found two places in Ogunquit (2 old houses converted) and another in Wells (condo style) and one in Rockport (big swanky kind of resort). The reviews of the 2 in Ogunquit weren't great, but they loved the location (i.e. right on the main drag and can walk everywhere).
I doubt Ben will be into the waves next year either, so we were looking for more of a getaway seaside vaca than the Beaches of NC. Everything I've read about the Maine coast sounds exactly like what we're looking for
