Poll time!  I'm going to frame Judd's favorite pic of Ben from our photo session w/ Charlotte for Fathers Day.  Here's the pic in frame:

(Don't know why this pic shows up looking like A Scanner Darkly)

I'm debating about having Ben 'paint' the mat board using blue paint probably the same color as the shirt he's wearing Yellow paint, but don't know if that will mess up the whole thing.  On the other hand, it makes it more than just a 'framed photo'.  (I'll get an extra mat or two just incase things look horrible or he really messes it up)

SO I look to you, dear LJ friends, to provide some input!

How fun! If you decide to have Ben paint the mat, I recommend using light yellow instead of blue. Painting it blue could make Ben and his shirt recede into one big blue color. Yellow paint, however, will pick up the colors in the background of the photo, while still enabling Ben to be the focal point of the whole thing.

Good thinking on the color choice - all of that color theory I had in college has apparantly vanished! :)

I think the handprint idea is awesome.

I'm worried that they'll get really smudged and messy, but hey, that's the charm, right?

I think in the end I'll order 3 or 4 mats and experiment with him.

I bet you could get good ones that weren't too smudged or messy. I think that is a really cool idea.

This makes me wonder, though--have you introduced art supplies to Ben? Has he already done some finger painting? I am wondering if that is something we should think about trying with Lyle sometime soon, or if he's still too young for it.

I personally haven't but he's fingerpainted on occasion (mainly Christmas and Valetines) at daycare for the past few months

You should totally do it! its a blast! At DC, they cover the entire table with paper, then have them paint the heart/star/whatever. One time they just did the table paper and that was a blast, too

I voted for hand prints. It will give the matte color while still serving a "purpose."

I did handprints on the matte with Katie and hubby loved it. I did the project quickly - because lingering with a baby and fingerpaints would probably lead to disaster! First, I put a cheapo plastic table cloth on the floor. Squirted washable paints onto a paper plate and had a ton of wet papertowels ready. I kept the matte out of the way until I needed it. I did each color and wiped her hands off after each color. Some did come out smeared, but I think that adds to the charm.

I voted plain but I think handprints could look really nice too. Love that photo! blue sure is a good color for him!
