december madness
Dec. 10th, 2004 11:01 amwell, i'm here for a few minutes.......
yesterday had another meeting in Arlington & grabbed lunch & visit with old friend from grad school who I haven't seen for about 2 1/2 years. She's about 4-5 years older than me & is on a bit of a differnet path (SAHM to 2 boys, 6 and 3) but is still lovely & we chatted like we've just spoke last week. Her youngest boy joined us and, as predicted, was adorable, well mannered (liked holding the door for me and always uses coasters!). Her house is gorgeous w/ the addition that was over a year in the planning/building....minus the minivan, quite jealous of her life now, esp as she's pretty involved in the local historic/heratige alliance & doing 10 hrs of consulting work a week.
in shopping news spent 1 1/2 hrs in DSW last night trying to decide on 'urban' sneakers (the euro looking kind w/ a thin sole that aren't white, have no wildly visible logo, and are, um, comfortable) I had my heart set on some green ones, and after trying on all of the styles/colors/other brands, came home with a pair that after wearing for about an hour around the house gave me shin splints. Guess those are going back.... gahhhhhhhh.....may have to order these or something similar from Zappos, but I won't get 'em until after I get back from San Francisco which kind of defeats the purpose of ordering them. Ohwell......a perfect excuse for visiting Gimme shoes> while out there.
tonight's our friend's annual Secret Santa party -- lots of foods, wacky $20 gifts and mucho drinking. My contribution this year is a new Red Pepper and White Bean dip from the Gourmet cookbook. Made it last night and the scrapings from the bowl were my dinner. SO yum!!!
All of this is leading up to tomorrow's (eek!) departure to San Francisco -- quick trip this time, but well planned with food and hotel. Staying in my fav. Kimpton hotel, gourging ourselves at Delfina, The Slanted Door and Zuni Cafe, with some Dim Sum and sushi stuffed in there somewhere. Good thing about SF is that you can get fresh fish and organics everywhere, and you're walking so much that you should burn off most everything...... I get back midweek, but Judd's staying until Friday (conference)....then we travel again in a week for Christmas. we better bring back some wine. I think we'll need it....
I cant even begin to capture the madness that work has been this week......
