the Whole of Baltimore is purple today. (you'd love it Amanda!). Buildings have purple lights on them....even one of the houses on our street is cast in lavender!
The mayor/govenor/team/whatever declared today "Wear Purple Day"*, and I'm slightly chastized at work for not complying.

why?

The Ravens are playing the Colts tomorrow. Big ol' matchup for Football Rights, and a big ol' grudge match. For those of you who don't know/remember the story, I won't bore you with details, but the gist is that back in the early 80's (?), the Baltimore Colts team left town in the middle of the night to head to Indy. About 20 years later, Baltimore got a team back again.

There's a LOT of old timers who are still really bitter about the Colts, but most have become huge loud obnoxious Ravens fans. We're talking purple and black camolauged pants kind of fans. Now, I like football. I'll support the Ravens, but I'm a lifelong Redskins fan, so I won't be wearing purple. I wouldn't be wearing burgandy and gold, either, so its kind of a moot point.

The whole purple thing is pretty annoying to me (Purple? For a FOOTBALL team?) Its as bad as Teal! (*cough* Jaguars *cough*) Why stop at Purple? Why not Coral? Or Mauve? All of these stupid new teams with their new colors! What happened to Forest Green and Blue and Brown and Black? I use to think that the Saints' gold was too flashy!


There was an article in today's paper about people who have weddings planned for tomorrow and how one father of the bride is wheeling in a big screen TV to the reception. The bride supports this idea, and has carefully timed the ceremony to happen during halftime (huh?) What a bummer of a reception it will be if the Ravens loose. And what a bar bill either way!




*Sadly, the Gogol Bordello song "Start Wearing Purple" has STILL not caught on around here!!!!

my brother had a NFL coloring book and I ALWAYS wanted to color the Saints and Raiders pics because I got to use the coveted Metallic Crayolas. Those were some mighty flashy uniforms after I was done with them!

This reminds me of the completely purple Easter basket my MIL gave me one year because she knows I like purple. Sure, I like the color but you don't have to go overboard.

And I think "wear purple day" for an entire city, in addition to using purple lights falls in the overboard category even me, a purple lover.

But then again I never had much school/team spirit in high school either. :P

Your mention of Gogol Bordello reminded me...I saw a film on HBO called Everything Is Illumintated with Elijah Wood. He plays a man you goes to Russia to find out about his grandfather's past. The other main character is his taxi driver who beocomes his interpreter and commrade during the odessy and is played by the lead singer of Gogol Bordello.
