I just want to throddle ignorant men and their wives who not only schedule inductions, but beg their doctors for c-sections because "why should one do it naturally anyway??! I mean the pain, the agony, the unknown timing, etc. Just cut in and take it out!"

especially when those men and their wives are friends of ours.

and I GAVE them my copy of Ina May's Childbirth book. Guess THAT one's collecting dust.

Speaking as someone who had to have a C-section I cannot, for the life of me, fathom why someone would willing let themseves be gutted like a fish. Not to mention the extended recovery time and PAIN!

It's major surgery. Why to people forget that? Oy.

no kidding. I mean if there's a medical reason, fine, take advantage of modern surgical advances. But for convience? Or, worse, your doctor's convience? Strip that medical license!

I really don't understand this couple. Half of the time they're crunchy/smart shoppers/enjoy the fine things, other times, they're bounding through life so blatently ignorant and deaf eared that it makes your head explode.

This is really intresting to me. I'm almost 11 weeks, and everyone woman in my family has had a c-section. My sister wanted a planned c/s. And my Mom has been telling me I have to have one. I'm kind of freaked out about both. Is Ina May's Childbirth book good? I think I need to read more about natural childbirth.

congrats on your pregnancy!
Ina May Gaskin's book is wonderful. I recommend it to EVERYONE! Most libraries have it, so you could check there, too.

If you really want to avoid a c/s, I'd also try to switch to a midwife. They're much more patient than a doctor, and most work with hospitals so that if you DO need a c/s, there's a seamless transfer.

Andrea, I had a c/s, and I would not recommend one. Most of my girlfriends who have had vaginal births have been up and walking around and eating and feeling perfectly normal very shortly after delivery. Me, on the other hand - I had to recover from major abdominal surgery after I had Scott. It sucked. I was sore and in pain, and it hurt to get out of bed and walk, and OMG if I coughed or laughed too hard or sneezed - OW. Even now, my incision scar gets a little sore sometimes. It's totally creepy.

My next pregnancy, I will definitely attempt a vaginal birth. I'd rather not have my stomach sliced open again. Not fun.
