book report!
Oct. 19th, 2005 05:18 pmBased on
kinaida's glowing review, I took a copy of Little Earthquakes with me this weekend......much better than your average Chick-lit....kind of like Ya-Ya Sisters for urban moms-to-be..... I'm not a big of most chick-lit, as it gets into the extreme unreasonable goofiness of the 2nd Bridget Jones (sliding down a fire pole? Mom running away with QVC guy? Whatever)
As a testament to how much I enjoyed it, I literally read the book in 1 day - I consumed it on our return flights. Highly recommended!

Date: 2005-10-19 09:27 pm (UTC)I found myself reallly liking Becky (and giving her WAY more credit that I would w/ her MIL!)
The whole Lia thing was an odd fit for me, too...I mean seriously, there's no way I'd let her into my house! I did start tearing up when she was in the resteraunt describing to the others what happened to her baby.
Overall, yes, very enjoyable, but does make me scared for those first 2 months!!! I think I've got a pretty good online support network, but need a good IRL one, too, esp for those days when everything goes wrong and I just need someone to come by who knows what I'm going through...

Date: 2005-10-19 10:05 pm (UTC)I haven't read Little Earthquakes yet, but I loved Good in Bed, and I hear her newest novel, Goodnight Nobody is very good as well. I love that all of the locales she mentions in her books are real places...I guess that's what happens when you write about what you know! :P
