Man, not John Peel! When we lived in Germany in the mid '80's, we could occasionally hear his show. It proved to be my first introduction to The Smiths and the CureJoy Division and all of the wonderment of Britpop. One of my most cherished possessions was a tape of the Cure's "Peel sessions" that earned me the wonderment of my friends back in the States...

I lived just outside of Stuttgart in Vahingen. Loved it - Europe is the perfect place for just-out-of-middle school aged kids to live. You can get just about anywhere w/o Mom or Dad driving you, you learn that you're not the center of the world, and (the bad kids!) can sneak a beer or two! I moved back here just before my junior year of high school where people constantly commented on my "Good English!" and couldn't comprehend how I was American but lived in Germany.

I remember driving through the Bodensee area - my mom LOVED that area & I think we spent a day or two there in route to a summer hiking weekend around Garmish. I loved the areas around the North Sea better, but that's probably because I the German wasn't so 'muttled'!
