yeah, its from the 80's, but I've read a few of her other books and loved them (Coming Home being my fav)
Lovely, character-rich story of an English woman with bohemian parents who married in the 1940's. Most of her books feature a strong woman with WWII as a backdrop--not sappy or sentimental, more cozy. Highly recommended---sort through your mom's bookcase, and you might find a copy of it.
