Yesterday was a bad day for my grandma -- she's been depressed for months (years) and yesterday she basically started making herself sick - there's nothing wrong with her physically, but she keeps saying that she can't eat, can't go to the bathroom, etc. My dad took her to the ER (despite the fact that she had a prearranged 2:00 dr's appt!) and was grumpy and mean to everyone. Later that afternoon when my mom calls here, mom basically tells grammy to "just stop it" and realize how lucky she is - she's 82 and can still drive, take care of herself, mostly healthy, no wheelchair, etc. She just worries about everything and feels like "no one needs her" My mom is going to take tomorrow off to be with her(and push aside her concerns about her OWN health - she has elevated numbers from a recent post-cancer screening & needs to have a full body scan which she is terrified of) and will talk to grammy's dr about zoloft or something. I'm going down in a few weeks to help find her a kitty to adopt (even though she claims she doesn't want it - she's 'thinking about it' for the next week or so)

I called her last night & she seemed kind of relieved, but still a bit worked up. Flowers are definately in order....should I go with the over-the-top Smiley Face ones or the slightly more refined basket of daisies?

But with her being a little bit older, she might appreciate something a little more in keeping with the Easter/Passover , like lilies, or peace(prayer)lilies. Or maybe something a little more traditional like Hiacynth (this is the season for them) they are my faves and the flowers from just one plant can scent your whole house. Since they are bulbs, it is something she could look forward to next year too.
If I had to choose between the 2 listed in the poll, I would go for the daisies.

hm...hadn't thought about that. She's not a big church goer, but does like lilies. (and gardinias and hyacinths! such yummy smells!) I'll keep looking!

If you are going to see her anyway, you could just buy the hiacynths, or lilies. Around Easter, every grocery store has them in little pots about to bloom. I think they run just under $15.00.

I think I like the first because there's a cup she could reuse. So I guess just something with a pretty vase or the like.

I just sent my grandmother daffodils :)

That's sad that she is getting like that. It seems to be a bit common when people are older and need a little more attention. Hopefully your visit will help. An easy to take care of pet is a great idea. My dad had a few kitties later in his life and they were his babies! It was cute.

I like the smiley faced first one. It's more upbeat and cheerful to me.
