Well, naturally I loved it.....
So I started this later than 99% of the world because I ordered the UK version. Judd finished reading his (US) copy the same day I started.
Overall thoughts:
-I was both excited and sad when I started, as I knew that this would be it.
-I liked the nostalgia that she hinted back to in things like when Harry was cleaning out his school trunk.
-I really wished there was more of Neville. I think his character had a massive potential for more development and she missed it. HATE Luna Lovegood (and don't really understand her purpose) and wished so much time wasn't wasted on her and her father.
-As with the Half Blood Prince and OoP, the book dragged horribly in the middle. I swear that H, H, and R were in the tent jumping around England for 1/3 of the book.
-I got teary eyed when Dobby died, and was really upset with Remus and Tonks' deaths. I think Rowling wimped out on the latters' deaths. Oddly, Fred's death wasn't that big to me.
-I thought the story was WAY rushed at the end after the forest. I wanted more time and reactions from Ron and Herm.
-I cried when Hagrid carried Harry out of the forest.
-I KNEW Snape was good, but didn't expect the 'in love with Lily' angle.
-Loved the epilogue, but kind of wished Ron and Herm would have ended up with others. Love Harry and Ginny together.
-I think the ending was perfect; its a kids book, and you couldn't have Harry die and stay dead.
Thoughts on Series
-I forsee Hogworts: TNG coming in a few years. Rowling has lived for far too long in that world to walk away.
-overall, still think book 3 (Prisoner of Azkaban) and 5 (order of pheonix) are my fav.
-as for the deaths in the series, Cedric Diggory's is still one of the saddest and affected me the most.

Date: 2007-08-08 12:28 pm (UTC)I, too, thought it was a bit slow in the middle...I think that's why it took me so long to finish. I really couldn't stop reading once they got to Malfoy Manor, however!
Prisoner of Azkaban is my favorite book of the series, too! ;)
Proud of myself because I called Snape's fondness for Lilly pretty early in the series, and knew he was good because if it (although I was having my doubts at the beginning of this book)!
Would like to have known what Harry's occupation turned out to be in the epilogue, but other than that, I was pretty satisfied with it. (Loved the line about his son, Albus's, name and that Snape was the bravest man Harry knew...that made me squee!)
Totally loved Mrs. Weasely calling Bellatrix a bitch! That was unexpected! :P
