Notes on Dining Rooms

vernacular_lifeI've been thinking about dining room tables lately. The table that we currently have is an old kitchen table from my parents. We like the size, but hate the color/finish/chairs (but we did add black cushions to tone it down a bit and make more comfy)
I was flipping through an old Room & Board catalogue (please come to the east coast!!) and fell in love with their copper top table. Only problem? They don't make anything bigger than a 40" square table. I want one that has a leaf. And we'd have to repaint the dining room, as it would clash horribly with the deep raspberry walls in the dining room.
whahhh!
In other news, i was horrified to learn that a female friend was given a budget of $500 by her husband to furnish their ENTIRE DINING ROOM. They're not poor. Not by any means. The husband just hates spending money. Sad thing is that they got a (not my taste at ALL) table + chairs for $350, and she thinks that she can find a china cab for $150. Now I know that some people aren't materialistic and are happy with a card table for a dining room table, but DAMMMN! You can't even do a dining room at Cost Plus for that!!!
