this is going around, but is amazing and worth a read......

Questioning beliefs

It'll make some of us who were so anguished yesterday/today feel a little better.....

I read that yesterday....very cool. I so hope it really happened but even if it didn't, it's well written and inspiring!

I posted a short note, and he replied back to me. x-posting here so not to loose it.

You know, I'm sort of baffled as to why just talking with someone seems such a foreign idea.. I realize that people have been withdrawn due to stress, and do need to minimize getting stressed out too much.. but really, how can anyone know how to deal with someone from "the other side" when neither side has a clue as to why the other side is equally passionate about their position on things as you are.

Sadly, I've run into a lot of "empty heads" who parrot whatever someone else says, which makes me insane when what they're parroting is either an outright untruth or half truth. Just like I was screaming at so many news anchors on TV, repeating Bush's charge that Kerry hasn't laid out his plan for the future, or that Kerry wants the US to pass a test with the rest of the world before he acts on matters of security, that sort of thing. That's NOT what he said, Bush twisted it to fit his needs, and the damned media kept repeating it over and over and over. Idiots, idiots, idiots. They have no idea how much they helped the Republicans on just that one thing. To say nothing of accepting any lame answer Bush tossed back in answer to their question. The media has access to these people, and it's their job to hold their feet to the fire. But it didn't happen again this election.

It's just frustrating to deal with empty heads.. anyway, glad you got something out of that entry, I had never in a million years expected anyone would read it past my friends, to say nothing of how far this has spread. Go figure. ;)

And yeah, go talk with people. Tell em right up front that you want to understand, really understand, why they believe what they do. And if they can't answer you, or aren't willing, chances are they're parrots, and you're wasting your time with em.

I have not spoken with a single Kerry supporter who could tell me why they were voting FOR their man, only why they were voting AGAINST Bush. That is why Kerry lost.

well, i'm in that catagory. I don't want the govt messing with my civil rights; they've got no bidness dictating 'emotional' matters. I frankly could care less if people want abortions, gays to get married, people to sell penis enlargers or late night tv, but I want them (and myself) to at least have the option.

(hm......i just thought of a side biz...)

Well, Mighty, consider me a Kerry supporter who liked what Kerry stood for on 99% of his platform. All of my friends and family who rallied behind Kerry also supported his views and his plans. And, might I add, we support the majority of what he intended to do. Bush supporters seemed to be focused on 2 or 3 things (gay marriage, abortion and terrorism). So, just wanted to set the record straight that just because many Kerry supporters couldn't stand Bush, it wasn't a case of "lesser of the evils"...people truly liked what he stood for.
