I'm reading reviews about baby sound soothers -- either the aquarium one or a nature sounds one.  One of the reviews on the nature sounds one comments:

"My only complaint is that it takes a lot of batteries and the heartbeat could be a little softer sounding (it doesn't sound like it does in the womb"

I highly doubt that she remembers what the womb heartbeat sounds like.  And if I remember reading correctly, all of the blood/hearbeat/intestinal sounds that the baby hears is more akin to a vacuum cleaner than a nice woooshing sound.

Yeah, it's pretty damned loud in the womb, or so I've read. I know Ellie napped with the TV on, music playing, or whatever else was running during the day when she napped in the swing.

We had a white noise setting on a sound machine in her bedroom that worked for Ellie for the first 3-4 months. Then we transitioned her to her aquarium. Now, sometimes I hear her at night wake up, crawl to the aquarium, turn it on, and then go back to sleep. Cracks me up everytime! :)

that's too funny! Guess that means that you'll have a quiet afternoon with him if you go get yoru hair cut!!

When I was little, my parents always turned on an old box window fan on high and I'd zonk out in a second. Must be similar sounds. Makes you wonder who the lullaby music is really for!!!

Syndei has a plain old noise machine that just makes a shhhhh sound, and she can't go to sleep without it. When she was a baby, Chad "shhhh'd" her a lot because the doctor told them that it was the "womb sound" so she's used to it. Also, their doctor said "absolutely not" on the lights/color things that hang on the side of the crib, because they didn't want to overstimulate her when she should be going to sleep.

I really have no idea, but I learned a lot from listening to my brother talk about Sydnei's experiences. And whatever they did works, because she never cries when she's put down for a nap or bedtime, she slept through the night in her crib at 3 weeks, and she transitioned to her big girl bed with absolutely no muss or fuss. I'm sure a lot of it is due to her mild temperament, but I think it also had to do with what their doctor recommended.

I just know that I'm terrified of doing the wrong thing. :p
